Principal's Corner

Dear Memorial School Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

As a 2009-2012 New Jersey School to Watch, we report with great pride that Medford Memorial School continues to offer students a comprehensive educational experience that includes a rigorous academic program and extensive co-curricular activities. Within a nurturing, student-centered environment, the instructional emphasis focuses on four core content areas: language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. Additionally, students are offered exploratory classes that include Spanish, visual and performing arts, physical education, and health. Technology is integrated throughout the content utilizing project based learning. During the enrichment period, a vast array of exposure classes may be selected. These include specific content related challenge classes, special interest content classes, individual studies, fitness, basic skills instruction, band, vocal music, and pre-teaching. All classes in our school are taught by highly qualified middle school teachers who regularly participate in staff development opportunities. A review of the state assessment scores attests to the high quality of our instructional program.

An extensive co-curricular program complements the academic offerings. These activities are open to the sixth grade students from the Haines Center and seventh and eighth grade students at Memorial. Some examples include intramural sports teams, Student Council, Jazz Band,, Memorial Outreach, Drama, Yearbook, Eye of the Panther, and Memorial Helpers. Participation in competitive interscholastic sports is offered for soccer, field hockey, basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, lacrosse, and track. Students represent our school at state and local visual and performing arts competitions that include All South Jersey Band, All South Jersey Chorus and the Burlington County Teen Arts Festival where many have received county and state recognition.

Our success as a middle school is the direct result of the combined efforts of the home and school. With a dedicated teaching staff and a supportive parent community, our students benefit from positive role models who provide the cornerstone for life-long learning experiences. Supported by our Medford community, the Home and School Association, the Medford Education Foundation, and the Board of Education, Memorial Middle School will continue to enjoy its reputation for caring about every student as an individual who has the potential for unlimited achievement. Our goal is to provide the best educational experiences that will ensure the success of each student as they prepare to lead responsible, productive lives.
