Welcome to Mrs. Hawthore's Fifth Grade Class
Hi, I am Mrs. Hawthorne a fifth grade teacher at Allen School formerly a fourth grade teacher for the last 11 years here. I attended Holy Family College and graduated in 1983. I began my teaching career in Philadelphia, PA in private school. I taught for five years and then started my family. I was a stay-at-home mom for seven years. Then, I returned to work (still in Philadelphia) when my two young sons started school. Six years later, my family made the move to New Jersey where I received my best teaching job ever in the Medford School District. I absolutely love the district and Allen School. I am looking forward to many more years here.
Fifth grade is an exciting year. It is the student's last year in elementary school. There is so much to learn in fifth grade and so many fun activities to enjoy. In Reading Workshop, we read many novels and learn the seven keys to comprehension and how to use these strategies to understand our reading at a deeper level. In Writng Workshop, our students do some powerful writing. They will learn to write Personal Essays, Personal Narratives, and so much more. In Math Class, the students are challenged and we provide them with all the concepts they will need for middle school. Our Social Studies classes are fun and engaging learning all about America's past. Our students rotate to all the fifth grade rooms for Science Class. I teach all about Matter and the Human Body. As you can see we are quite busy in fifth grade.
