Thank you for visiting our 2nd grade Website. I have been teaching since 1985 with a 10 year break that I stayed at home being a full time mom to my children here in Medford. I feel very privileged to live and teach here. I am a graduate of The College of NJ. I have pursued Master's credits from the Penn Literacy Network and TCNJ. I LOVE 2nd grade and I am very excited to co-teach with Mrs. Cobucci, Mrs. Fisher and collaborate with the rest of the second grade team. In previous years, I have taught kindergarten, first, and third grade. I am very excited to use a balanced literacy program in 2nd grade. Along with Reader's Workshop, the children do Close Reading of poetry, Guided Reading, Independent Reading and reading with friends. In past years we utilized learning centers. This was a simple way to differentiate the students' learning objectives and meet with small guided reading groups simultaneously. With our curriculum growing, this year we are trying to fit it all in and our scheduled reading time is a work in progress. As a team, Mrs. Fisher, Mrs. Cobucci, Mrs. DiBenedetto, Mrs. Welsh and I provide a lot of small group work and movement throughout our school day. We begin and end each day with a meeting which helps to build our classroom feeling of community. We use a lot of Whole Brain Teaching strategies and utilize Classroom Dojo to reinforce our 5 rules.....1. Follow directions quickly. 2. Raise your hand if you want to speak. 3. Use your hand to leave the room. 4. Make smart choices. 5. Keep teachers happy! These rules assure that we are safe, kind, and ready to learn!
